Engine Three Seven Gig at the Espy

Working in the hospo industry has its perks. Working Sat nights EVERY WEEKEND is not one of them. After begging a fellow co-worker to cover it for me, they asked, "What do you have planned thats so special?" My answer was the Engine Three Seven show in St. Kilda.

They were playing at the Espy, a wicked venue for live gigs in Melbourne, and I was not about to miss it. With an amazing opening act by Twelve foot Ninja, this show was unstoppable. The crowd was eating up everything they were given, a heaping spoonful of rock, metal and funk...a sure recipe for a great gig.

With Great vocals, lyrics and all around tight performance from all band members, Engine Three Seven will be a force to be reckoned with. Look out for these guys...you wont want to miss them!

Goonengerry: a Second Home

A low mist covers the valley of Goonengerry, near a much beloved Byron Bay. Not many people, save for the locals, will make the journey out here. Their loss, as Goonengerry hushes the wind, warms your heart and allows you to get more into nature than you intended. A place where everyone waves or gives the nods, a place where time can pass before your eyes and you wouldn't mind.

Old School Holga Lovin'

After my camera was stolen last year, my love of a hubby bought me a Holga for Christmas. To be honest, I had never even heard of them before. Apparently, they used to be an old German spy camera back in the day. I loaded up the 120 film, taped the back so it wouldnt pop open and began to shoot away. I love how you can do double exposures so easily with this camera, and it has this dreamy and tainted look to the film. Love, love, love this camera!

Dave Somebody at the Brunswick Hotel

Throw in a powerful voice, mad guitar skills, some shakes and spasms and you have got David Childs. Dave started off in Byron, playing with Maze of Monsters, then began a solo gig as "Dave Somebody". If you are lucky enough to see this guy play, go see him.

Frolick in Fall

Its starting to get cold in Melbourne now. The leaves are falling, the air is crisp and people have begun to put away their summer joys like flip flops, bikinis and anything that would reveal your skin. My noes is constantly running, like a tap I cant afford to fix. I have become the old woman who positions her slippers near her bed to greet her warmly in the fresh mornings.

The Wait is Over.

I have bought my child. A child that I have been toying with for over a year. A child that I assumes cries when I do not hold it, a child that could never be replaced; well, until a newer better model comes around.

I have lurked in the camera stores long enough, too long in fact. I was becoming "that person" that just comes in and stares at things that I could not afford, while asking the salesperson if I could just 'check it out'. The wait is over.

I now have in my hands my brand new camera. One that is replacing the camera that was feverishly stolen in the night along with my brand new laptop. Spilled milk. Cant cry now, nor can I make any excuses for not doing what I love. Its funny how sometimes you have to PUSH yourself to do the things you would cut your left arm off to do. Photography is that thing. I would (and will) do it for the rest of my life. I know this. I know there are going to be thousands of future photos in my library, someday I will make a book, damnit. Someday I will talk to the greats and eat scones while drinking tea, talking about composition and f-stops. Someday...

Until then, I will rebuild my lost memories, also stolen from thieves in the night (shaking fist vigorously). I will do what I love. I will do what makes me happy. I will see something nobody else will see and then capture it like an unsuspecting fish.

Lets go fishing.
